Monday in Gold Canyon
Well today is primary election day for Arizona, and according to the TV news here it's a real mess in Phoenix. The metropolitan Phoenix area has a population estimate of 4,489,109 in the 2014 census. Most of this metro area is in Maricopa County. There were over 200 voting sites in 2012. this year there are only 60 voting sites. People are standing on line to vote for hours. Some sites ran out of Democratic ballots. I expect there will be many more issues surfacing tomorrow.
To add to the issues here a cold front is moving through bringing high winds. The winds carry one sand particles. We had our windows and door open all day, as we have everyday, and we have dust everywhere. Gloria had just finished cleaning the inside this weekend, and it's going to need a good cleaning again.
With the high winds, it's not a good time for a major fire, but thats what they have at a major recycling center near the airport. We are some 35 miles from Phoenix and we can see black smoke high in the sky overhead. Thankfully the winds are subsiding tonight.
On a happier note, the cactus around here are really starting to flower. It must be a site to see later in April when they peak.
The pictures below are form a cactus here in the campground. It's a very small cactus, but it's flowering like crazy. The bad news is that they are a one night stand. They seem to open and die off in about a 24 hour period. These flowers are big, almost 6 inches across.
2 open flowers and 2 that are finished.
