I need to straighten out a lizard ID from my last post. It's looking like one of the headshots was a Gila Monster, but the full body shot and the other head shot was in fact a Chuckwalla. I never have heard of a chuckwalla before, but turns out we saw 4 of them the other day.
I want to share a humbling experience I had while we were back in Tucson.
We were riding our bikes on the loop in East Saguaro NP. There is a pretty good hill on that loop. It goes on for a ways. I am trudging along and this younger guy blows by me. Thats OK I tell myself, no damage to the ego, he is much younger looking and looks like a very serious cycler. He goes around the corner and I forget about it and keep on trudging.
Then I see him coming back down the hill, even though its oneway traffic. What the hell !
A few minutes later here he comes up the hill again and blows by me for the second time. So now I have been passed on a hill TWICE ......by the same rider. At least he did it by going down the hill and back up. If he had kept going around for a second lap and passed me twice, I think I would have dropped my bike into a dumpster somewhere.
Below is a bird picture I took this afternoon in a Riparian Park in Gilbert AZ. My birding partner says she thinks it's a Abert's Towhee. Sounds good to me.
