On The Road Again

We are set up in Junction Texas for the night.  We are out of the "Zika Zone".  While in the RGV we were inside the Texas Zika area, so we needed to take precautions to be sure Gloria didn't get pregnant. :-) .
Hopefully, with a long day on the road we will make it out of Texas tomorrow.

The pictures below are of the Common Pauraque.  This nightbird is common in Central and South America, and has a very limited range in the U.S.  It roost on the ground in the daytime and hunts for insects at night.  At night they can be quite noisy.  We headed them near our campground, but never saw them.  They are masters at hiding in plain sight.  I am sure the only way I would have ever found these birds was because of a tip from our campground neighbors Elton and Donna.  They knew we were gong to Estero Llano Grande State Park and told us where they had found them last year.  They were in the same spot.  Even armed with that info it wasn't until one of the birds started rocking back and forth that I found it.  Had it remind motionless.....I might have missed it.  I have video of it rocking, but you will have to wait to see that.

Pictures are below.  It is rare to see one of these birds in the U.S., but it is even more rare to see one with an eye open in the daylight.
