Exciting Morning
Let me start by saying it was a somewhat exciting morning for us. Others in the campground ( who have been here for several winters.......not so much ).
I was out side the camper getting things ready for our morning bike ride. Now we can't go a 1/2 mile without seeing either a Border Patrol or State Trooper. Every night we hear a helicopter flying around. We know what his is about and expect it. This morning we heard a helicopter, not normal. Once outside I noticed the helicopter was circling our campground and then it moved to the sister park next door. The circles got smaller and the chopper got lower and lower. Oh good I thought. We saddled up and headed out of the back entrance to our gated community. As soon as we got on the road I could see Border Patrol vehicles, lots of them. Less than 1/4 mile from our back gate was a Border Patrol van. The van was positioned such that it blocked most of what was going on. But I could see on both ends of the van young men siting on the ground and one was putting clothes into a vey large clear zip lock bag. The agents were all wearing the blue disposable gloves.
Now just another 100 yards further is a stable for the Border Patrol horses, not a great spot to cross the border illegally I would think. But what do I know about all of this.
But all in all, you have to realize the real situation here. There are basically two different types of people crossing the border here illegally. Those who are smuggling drugs and those who just want a better life. Everyone around here is thinking most are not the drug runners. I hope they are right, but I am not counting on it. I will be and have been cautious and remain suspicious, Mr Ruger is nearby when we venture into the boonies.
I always have a habit of looking at licenses plates to see where people are from. Around here I have noticed many strange plates. I have figured it out, they are Mexican Plates. They come over for shopping and cheaper gas. We have driven through and a few communities where all of the signs were in Spanish, no English.
So... moving on. We rode the bike trail and added a out and back up the road to the Texas Veterans Cemetery. Along the way we found a city park...so of course we rode in it and found it had a BMX track. Pics of Gloria on the track are below. No picks of the Border Patrol action this morning ...no, B_ _ _ s. I miss my Go Po camera on my bike.
Oh it was 94 degrees here today. But no air conditioner yet.
