We are still here !
It's been a few days since my last post. It has been none stop until today.
My last post was Sunday after the rodeo. We have since learned that Tucson Rodeo Week is an even bigger deal than we had thought. Today was a big parade and all of the schools are closed Thursday and Friday for Rodeo Week.
Monday we went to the Desert Museum west of town. We got there at 8:30 am for the guided birding hike. The museum is really very different than a conventional museum. This one is mostly outdoors and they have native desert plants and wildlife habitat set up over a couple of acres. It is really very well done. All of this open native habitat attracts all sorts of wild birds and animals. This adds to the re-habed injuried animals that they have.
The main event is the Raptor Flight. They line you up along a couple of railings out in the open. Then they bring out raptors one or two at a time and they fly right over your head and land on tree snags near you, very near you. Needless to say I got some pretty good video and some great stills during this presentation. Look for some stills in the coming days.
Tuesday we worked out at the gym here then in the afternoon we drove up to Mount Lemmon. Anywhere in Tucson where you have a clear view to the North, you can see Mount Lemmon. Tucson is at about 2400 ft elevation. Mount Lemmon tops out at about 9,400 feet I believe. To the little ski community at the summit is about 10 miles as the crow flies, depending where you start from. Again depending on where in Tucson you start from, by road it is nearly 40 miles to that community. This route is a very popular cycling route. The views along the rout are fantastic. There was still plenty of snow up there, but the skiing is done for this season. In fact according to the weather guy on TV here, winter is over Monday out here.
Wednesday we did a guided hike in the East Unit of Saguaro National Park. Just under 4 miles. We did another mike loop on our own afterwards.
Tuesday night we had dinner at BJ's Brewhouse. Great food and good beers.
Today was maintence day, laundry and clean the RV for Gloria and I replaced the two parts that the dealer had shipped to us. So Gloria now has her central vacuum in the RV again, and the propane tanks will switch automatically again.
Not much time to process pictures but I did get a few done. Here are a couple. Two of a Lesser Goldfinch and one of a Verdin.
