Padre Island National Seashore

This morning we were back in Padre Island National Seashore.  Beautiful day, temps in the 70's , but a little windy.  We have been told that it is breezy here most of the time.  I think that's pretty standard for Gulf Coast Beaches.
This morning we saw an American Bittern.  He was right out in the open.  For non birders (like me) I am told this is a big deal.  I got a few pictures of it, but had to shoot through a dirty van window to get them.  One of the shots is below.

All of theses pictures are from our time in the Padre Island National Lakeshore.  The park has over 70 miles of beach on the gulf side.  You can drive 60 miles of it, if you have a sand worthy vehicle.  Some tourist went in with a 2 wheel drive rental van and buried it.  They were about 45 miles down the beach.  The tow was expensive, very expensive.  The tide was coming in and they were forced to try to drive in the softer sand.  Lesson there is to be aware of tide tables.

We are no longer in Mustang Island State Park.  We moved to a private campground a few miles further north on the island.  So we are actually in the community of Part Aransas.  Nice campground and a really nice beach.
