Chicha
Back in the USA we like to visit breweries.
In Peru there is a drink called " Chicha". It's a beer made primarily from corn. It is often sold in a Chicheria. The making and selling of this beer is another cottage industry in Peru. After the chocolate works we went to a Chicheria for a demonstration of the process of making the Chicha and a tasting. The drink is somewhat bitter and has an alcohol content of only about 1-3%. We sampled 2 varieties, the regular and one with strawberry in it.
The chicheria's are sometimes identified by a small red flag or plastic bag on a stick, signifying they are open.
Some Chicherias also serve on special request, a lunch consisting of another Peruvian speciality....cuy. We just had the chicha.....this time.
