Tubac Rant
Ok today we went to Tubac AZ. Tubac is a small, very small town, that has become an artist community and each February they have a juried art show. It's a very big deal out hear. I believe they have 170 artist around town plus the many permanent galleries in town. It started yesterday (Wednesday) and runs thru Sunday.
So this morning its off we go. It is very well organized and they have lots of police and other volunteers to keep the traffic flowing and guide you to parking. It is just amazing the way they have it set up and organized. After we were there for about an hour I jokingly commented to Gloria that they should limit the size of the groups of women they allow. It should be no more than 3, because they tend to stop at corners and intersections and stand there discussing whatever forever. You can't get by them. But I was really just being manly about a trivial thing.
Now as a disclaimer the rest is not a joke but a real rant off mine. Now this little town was crowded, very crowed. The restaurants were very well prepared, they have been doing this for 58 years. They know how to get people in and fed. We had coffee and a muffin early so we went to lunch at about 2:30. We chose a pretty nice Mexican Restaurant. It was still a little crowed but we got a table no problem. Now this is a typical restaurant. As you walk in the door there is a hostess stand and a sign that says "Please Wait To Be Seated.
Now we are at our table and the hostess comes in with another couple and guides them to a table by us. Right behind the hostess and the party of two comes two women who walks directly up to our waiter and say " Do you have a table for 6 ?" Being the a good waiter (and maybe a member of the family that owns the place) he looks around, no hostess, goes ahead and puts two tables together for them. Then the hostess reappears with a questioning look.... There is some discussion between the waiter and the hostess in Spanish. The waiter just forces a smile and sings in Spanish. He no sooner finishes his little song and we hear one if the ladies say to the other" so and so just texted they aren't coming". They did not tell the waiter there will now only be two and just watched as he sets up for 6. As he finished, they said " Oh there are only going to be two of us".....He takes their drink order and off he goes. By the time he gets back there are now 4 women sitting there. Two wanting their drinks asap. And it gets better. One is having a beer, one is having lemonade, the 3rd we don't know what she had and the 4th has some desert. That's it, they put the waiter through all of this, they are too impatient to wait for the hostess to get them a table and then they take up this space and don't even hardly order anything. I sure hope they tipped him well...but I am guessing not. Oh by the way they paid him cash at the table so they wouldn't have to wait for him to go to the cashier and the beer glass was 2/3 rds full when they left. Do you know how much noise heavy wooden chairs make when they slide on the tile? It can be loud, but these 4 made such a racquet with their chairs everyone in the room had to stop and look over at them.
It wasn't just me that was repulsed by their behavior, Gloria even remarked about how poorly they behaved. OK thats it I am done.
We had a great time and on the way back to Tucson we stopped in to see Don and Sue Schorfhaar in Green Valley. We were totally impressed with their "winter home". We had cocktails on their patio and watched another beautiful Arizona sunset.
