Towhee
This time of year can be tough to identify birds. Many mature birds are changing from summer to winter plumage and the young birds from the first broods are getting their adult plumage. That is the case with the birds in theses shots. Gloria and I feel that what we have is a towhee, but not sure if it is a Canyon or Albert's Towhee. A California Towhee is not out of the question either, It's normal range extends into the Baja Peninsula, and that is not that far from us. I think I am going with the Canyon Towhee. :).
The other bird peaking through the agave stem is a Curve-billed Thrasher.
