Who Knew

 Who Knew...

This little bird was a real learning experience for Gloria and I.  When I first found one and started to take images of it I thought I was seeing a life bird, one we hadn't seen before.  Then a few minutes later Gloria was along side me and she got her binoculars on one and she thought the same thing.

Gloria started looking in her bird books and I was on my phone app and we came away with, no not a new bird for us, just a new variation of a very familiar bird.....a Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Turns out there are two distinct populations of Yellow-rumped Warblers.   There is the "Myrtle" that we are accustomed to seeing and the "Audubon"s" that we saw that day at Patagonia State Park.

Both populations have the bright yellow rump and the yellow on the sides. The Myrtle have a white throat that wraps around the the cheek.  The Audubon's has a bright yellow throat.   If you go further south into GaGuatemala there is a third population, the Goldman's.  Now you know.
