Hike
On our third day in Organ Pipe we drove the Ajo Mountain Drive to the Estes Canyon-Bull Pasture Trail Head.
The trailhead actually serves two hikes, the Estes Canyon trail and the Bull Pasture trail, but the trails intersect and can be done as a loop. We were going to go out the Bull Pasture trail and come back the Estes Canyon trail. Estes Canyon can be a good birding spot so I wanted both a 12-100 zoom for the scenery and my big 300mm prime for the wildlife. So I slipped into my my camera backpack for the hike. Carrying the camera with the smaller zoom lens on my vest clip and several lens and assorted other gear in the backpack.
Turns out Bull Pasture is not a pasture, it's a bit of a flat spot near the top of a mountain. The trail guide calls it a difficult 4.1 mile loop with steep grades and a 1050 foot elevation gain from the trail head. It is a pretty steep trail and some spots were a narrow ledge and the backpack was making my balance a bit precarious at times. So for the second timeI had to leave camera gear on the trail.
Just a couple of pics from the hike for now.
