On the Road Again

Just like the Willie Nelson song.... we are back on the road again......

Things got off to a bad start.  We planned to leave Cheboygan Tuesday December 6.  But instead of heading to the southwest we got up early and went to Petoskey MI for an appointment for Tom with an Orthopedic Surgeon.  Tom needed to have his left middle finger looked at by the surgeon.  This was a follow up from an ER visit on Saturday.  Tom had an "incident" on his lathe and ended up with several stitches, a broken bone and a cut tendon.  The word surgery was being tossed around which had our plans in a real bind.
Fast forward back to the Tuesday appointment and after the consult Tom decided surgery wasn't in the cards.  The surgeon was ok with that decision for that particular joint.  ( the tip of the finger).  Had it been the middle joint it would be a different matter.
So a 6 week stint with a splint (say that 3 times fast) should allow the bone and the tendon to heal up.  Biggest concern was the high probability of infection with an "open fracture".  So and IV in the ER and a bottle of pills and off we go.  So far so good.

Got every thing packed up Tuesday afternoon and got the house sitter all settled in Wednesday morning and off we went.

After two days of driving we are in Forest City Arkansas for the night.  Still cold weather,  lows in the 20's and highs in the 30's, but at least the wind has subsided.
We hope to stay in our first campground tomorrow, somewhere between Texarkana and Houston  Texas.

Just want to add one more item for the Cheboygan folks.  Gas in Cheboygan I think was $2.29. Diesel was $2.59.  We so far have seen gas as low as $1.97 and diesel has been from $2.64 to just recently $2.25.  So for diesel Cheboygan isn't to bad.

Welcome to Arkansas ya' all
