Day 4 of On the Road Again
Day 4, hitting the bog every other day so far. :)
Yesterday was going great until we were about 30 minutes from our planned stop for the night in Weatherford OK. Traffic on I 40 was stopped dead in both directions for awhile then moved at a snails pace. We were eventually directed off of the Interstate and sent down old Route 66. In this neck of the woods old 66 is a narrow rough two lane with lots of interstate traffic in both directions...and id a mention that by now its dark, real dark, the moon is a sliver. It took us over an hour and a half to go the 30 miles to our chosen campground.
Found out that the issue was that someone had rear ended a propane truck and started the truck on fire. A grass fire was also part of the drama. They were letting the propane truck burn off the propane. Don't blame them for that decision. I sure wouldn't want to get near that truck.
Tonight we stopped in Tucumcari NM. We are in a KOA, not great up ok. We had some serious wind across Texas, but our current camper handles the wind well. You can tell which tractor trailers were empty today. The trailers had a sever list from the wind.
Crossing the top of Texas on I 40 is a 176 mikes or so. Last year when we where in the souther part, we were on the road for 3 days to get out of Texas.
Weather had been in the 60's during the afternoons, but the nights are near freezing.
Today was a shorter day and we stopped early so we could unhooked for the first time and go into town for groceries.
