Wow !
All I can say is wow, what a day. It was a pretty well run event. There were over 600 jumpers preregistered. There was well over 900 there today. I jumped with the Ronald MacDonald House staff and volunteers. My step-daughter is an admin person there. They jumped during the short intermission.
The event raised over $100,000.00, surpassing last years $85,000. The money goes to Ronald MacDonald House of Akron and a cancer camp for kids that is also local to Akron. Each charity keeps what they raised themselves plus they then split what the event it's self raises. One law firm for example raised $17,000.00. So Ronald House will get half of that money as I understand it.
Personally, the last Meri checked I raised around $500. So thank you everyone who contributed.
As far as the actual experience....I didn't feel the cold until I was swimming to the ladder. So the first few seconds I was unaware of how cold it was. But I sure did know it a few seconds latter. When I was on the dock I became aware that my breathing was very rapid with very short breaths. I could see where hyperventilation could be an issue. The temps were in the mid 40's with bright sun, but a stiff wind. The ice was 12 inches thick.
Below is a link to a very short video that Gloria shot today. I just selected clips of our jump, I will put together a video showing more of the event when I get a chance, maybe tomorrow.
