New Pictures

Yesterday (Sunday) Dan Welihan and I joined up with a group from the Straits Area Audubon Society.  The small group was led by Steve Baker.
Lake Huron is over 85 % frozen over right now.  So for water fowl to find open water they need to search different areas.  One source of open water is several sections of the Cheboygan River.

Some species of waterfowl that are normally far from shore on the Great Lakes can now be found in the open water of the river.  Our objective yesterday was to try and get some shots of these ducks that we don't often see up close.

At one of the locations we stopped at, the eagle pictured below was perched on a marina pilling.  When we came around the side of the building Steve spotted the eagle before he saw us coming.  It was actually looking away from us at the time.  This gave me a few seconds to fire off a couple of shots.

What I think is really special about the shot is the background.  It is all snow.  The other side of the rive is a steep slope covered in snow.  Makes the eagle really stand out I think.
