Eye Contact Can Be a Game Changer

Eye Contact Can Be a Game Changer
Last night I was in the basement and Gloria was at her desk upstairs. I came up about 9:15 pm to bring in the feeders. I stopped for a minute to see a picture Gloria wanted to show me and then went outside.
As I walked around the corner of the house I noticed a black blob on the ground near the feeders. The shape was a little puzzling. I first thought black lab, but then I noticed the upright rounded ears.....labs ears aren't like that........it's a bear.

As a somewhat conditioned reflex I yelled at the bear, he looked right at me for a second. Then he jumped up and bolted. I turned and ran for the house ( to get my camera ).

He had brought down feeder and was enjoying his prize. If you look at the time stamp ( which is about 5-10 mins fast) you'll see he was here for awhile.

I brought the feeders in and we waited to see if he would come back. He did but not until 1 am or so.

Not sure what we will do now. I would like to scare him again if he comes around when I can see him. Other than that we may have to quit feeding the birds for the summer.
