It's Summer !

Well last week summer finally arrived for us.  We had several days of warm temps.  The temperatures got the bugs in a more normal pattern, dusk to dawn.  So we could be outside in the daytime and actually use our deck.  Prior to this the winds were off the lake most often, giving us temps that were 10 - 20 degrees cooler than it was just a mile further from the shoreline.  We would go into town dressed for fall weather while everyone who lived in the city of Cheboygan was in summer clothes.
Our neighbors were easy to spot from a distance by their dress.
Last Thursday was the first Cheboygan River cruise.  The deal is that you meet in the parking lot of a local restaurant (Mulligan's ) and they shuttle you up river to the Anchor In Marina.  There you board a pontoon boat and cruise down the river back to town.  About a 1 1/2 hour cruise.  They provide some snacks and the passengers BYOB.  You also get a history lesson along the way.
You get to go throughout the river locks and then you are dropped off downtown.  A short 2 blocks from your car.  It was great. We were joined by 4 of our friends and had a great time.  This was all no charge, just tip the boat captain.  After the cruise we were joined by 4 more friends for dinner at Mulligan's.  A very nice evening.  We will be doing this again, I am sure.

Speaking of summer weather.... we had a small car show in town back in June.  They close down Main Street and park the cars on both sides of the street and you can walk right down Main Street and look at the cars while a DJ plays 50's and 60 's music.  I loved it.  So much so that last weekend we did this again in Saint Ignace.  This car show is the same deal.  Shut down Main Street and line the street with classic cars.  Only this show is much larger.
I love the " Rat Rods ".  For the none car buff, rat rods are old cars that look like real beaters, the rougher the better.  As I told a friend at the Cheboygan show,  I think they remind me of the cars in our high school parking lot.

Of course I took pictures at both shows.  Below is a link to a short slid show of the cars in Cheboygan that caught my interest.  The cars in Saint Ignace will be in a later post.
