Summertime in Northern Michigan
Yesterday (Saturday May 31st) we made a day trip up to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which is on the southern shores of Lake Superior. A little over a 3 hour drive from Cheboygan. We went to see some of the incredible wildflowers up there. We also walked down to the beech and found there was still plenty of ice chunks floating in the lake.
In the pictures below you will see ice near shore. What you don't see clearly is the nearly solid line of ice a few miles offshore. The chucks of ice are pushed together by the wind and have a line of ice for miles. It was 83 degrees on the car thermometer in the parking lot, but the water was pretty cold still.
