Bikes
One cool thing about the Netherlands was the cyclist. One bad thing about the Netherlands was the cyclist.
As a former avid cyclist I loved seeing them used as a major form of transportation. From my limited observations, the Dutch are a very fit nation. But the bikes are nonstop. On busy city streets a pedestrian needs to stay on their toes. The cars have their streets, cyclist have their designated path and what's left is a sidewalk for pedestrians. If something blocks a bike lane...the bikes are on the sidewalk. Most bikes have a small bell, if you happen to stray onto their path you get one ding of the bell. That is your warning.
Our group was 21 individuals, plus a guide on occasion. I consider us VERY lucky to have made it 10 days without anyone getting hit by a cyclist.
Image was from the town of Kampen.
